As the Punjab capital’s air quality index (AQI) surpassed 1,000 once more on Sunday, making it the most polluted city in the world, residents of Lahore continued to suffer from “hazardous” air quality.
The level of lethal PM2.5 pollutants, the small particulate matter in the air that causes the most harm to health, peaked at 613, according to the Swiss air quality monitor IQAir. This is 122.6 times more than the limit that the World Health Organization considers unhealthy.
The real-time list of the world’s most polluted cities revealed that the AQI, which monitors a variety of contaminants, increased to 1,073 at 10am, even higher than yesterday’s “unprecedented” 1,067.
The AQI peaked at 1,194 at one point and then dropped to 766 at midday.
