VIENNA: The 35-member UN atomic watchdog’s Board of Governors passed a resolution Thursday calling on Iran to immediately strengthen its collaboration with the organization. To entice Tehran to participate in fresh nuclear talks, the resolution also demanded a “comprehensive” report.
The United States, Britain, France, and Germany, who put out the resolution, rejected an Iranian last-minute attempt to limit its stash of nearly weapons-grade uranium as insufficient and dishonest. According to diplomats, Iran’s action was contingent on the resolution being abandoned.
Iran has threatened to retaliate in kind to this resolution, which usually makes it angry. It has increased nuclear activity and decreased nuclear-related activities following earlier criticism at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Board.
