Liutauras Cemolonskas spent two years searching for the pieces of Lego that were famously lost in the sea in 1997 during a storm involving a cargo ship. He had been expecting to uncover the “holy grail”—a plastic octopus.
352,000 pairs of flippers, 97,500 scuba tanks, and 92,400 swords were among the Lego pieces that fell into the water; however, only 4,200 octopuses remained on board, making them the most valuable item.
Found on a Marazion beach, Liutauras frequently visits the area’s beaches with his parents and has accumulated 789 Lego pieces in the last two years in addition to a large collection of fossils.
The Lego Lost At Sea project, spearheaded by beachcomber Tracey Williams, has been searching for the plastic parts that fell into the ocean for years.
