The child was visiting the seaside resort of West Wittering, close to Chichester, West Sussex, as part of a party from Uxbridge College in west London, to commemorate the end of the semester.
According to Sussex Police, he was evacuated to the hospital and declared dead. His family has been notified.
Principal of Uxbridge College Dylan McTaggart stated: “Everyone here has been greatly impacted by this awful catastrophe. Taking care of everyone impacted is now our top focus.
With the assistance of licensed counselors, we will ensure that during the upcoming days and weeks.
We ask that you respect the family’s privacy while they mourn the loss of a child. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
Detective Inspector Darren Taylor of Sussex Police stated that with the cooperation of the Health and Safety Executive, investigators are looking into the event to determine all the details.
He stated, “I would like to express my sincere condolences to the boy’s loved ones at this heartbreaking time. This was an absolutely tragic incident.”
