According to KTLA, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) detected a 3.8 magnitude earthquake in San Bernardino County on Thursday night at approximately 11:38 p.m.
The epicentre was located about 2 miles southeast of Ontario, near the Ontario International Airport, at a depth of around 7.4 miles.
Fortunately, there were no initial reports of injuries or structural damage. While California sees many little earthquakes each year, occurrences larger than 3.0 magnitude are fairly unusual.
According to the California Department of Conservation, the most intense earthquake ever recorded in the state was 7.9 magnitudes and occurred on January 9, 1857, in Fort Tejon.
