According to News , U.S. Ambassador to Israel Jacob Lew has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and opposition leaders Benny Gantz, Yair Lapid, and Avigdor Lieberman to put a stop to the proposed legislation.
All ties between UNRWA and the Jewish state, including diplomatic visas given to UNRWA employees and other services rendered by the State of Israel, are intended to be terminated by the current legislation.
Yulia Malinovsky stated, “There is a difference between dialogue and pressure,” in reference to the ambassador’s purported meddling.
Malinovsky is one of the writers of the law and a member of the Yisrael Beiteinu party in the Knesset.
“Hamas is an essential component of UNRWA, which is a terrorist organization,” she told News. Its presence keeps the conflict going.
Asserting that “about half of UNRWA employees are affiliated with Hamas and the first weapons found in UNRWA were back in 2014,” she pledged to see that the legislation is passed. They took part in the massacre on October 7. By maintaining the status of refugees for the benefit of its employees, this organization contributes to the issue.
