KARACHI: According to investigative officials on Tuesday, nine persons—including a woman—have been detained on suspicion of being connected to the continuing inquiry into the tragic bomb that killed three people, including two Chinese nationals, close to the airport.
The police have stated that the area has been geofenced and that the material discovered at the bomb site has been sent for forensic analysis while the investigation is still ongoing.
Apart from the three dead — two of whom were Chinese — a Chinese national and over a dozen others were injured in what sources think was a suicide attack. The attack has been linked by the government to the banned Majeed Brigade.
The event provoked a strong response from the nation’s authorities, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing profound dismay.
