An electrical issue prompted the autopilot and autothrottle systems on an American Airlines flight from Chicago O’Hare to Las Vegas to abruptly disengage, forcing an emergency landing early Sunday morning.
The 14-year-old Boeing 737 that was operating flight AA1047, which was scheduled to travel three hours to Harry Reid International Airport, was engaged in the incident.
The pilots encountered several electrical issues shortly after takeoff, including the sudden disconnections of the autopilot and autothrottle and the unannounced activation of the takeoff configuration horn.
Several door lights were left on for several minutes, which was concerning, even though the horn went off after about 30 seconds.
After reaching a height of about 27,000 feet, the crew chose to head back to Chicago O’Hare, where the plane landed.
