The latest setback to the two nations’ deteriorating diplomatic ties came Tuesday when Russia expelled a British diplomat who was employed at the embassy in Moscow on charges of spying.
According to Russia’s Foreign Ministry, the British ambassador broke Russian law by purposefully using false information to gain entry into the nation as a front for espionage activities.
According to the Foreign Ministry, Russian security officials “found evidence of him carrying out subversive and intelligence operations on our nation’s territory.”
According to state media TASS, the Foreign Ministry then ordered the envoy to leave Russia within two weeks and canceled his diplomatic accreditation.
In a statement, a representative for the British Foreign Office said: “Russia has previously made false and vile charges about our employees.
