The Cabinet Committee on Enforced Disappearance was informed on Wednesday that the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances (CoIED) had discovered that many of the instances it had examined were fraudulent, with some people being declared criminals who had left the country to evade prosecution.
The breakthrough occurred during the cabinet committee’s inaugural meeting, which was chaired by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, according to a law ministry official.
The committee was given additional authority to assess the steps and activities of the inquiry panel in order to address the missing person’s case as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the committee looked for the most recent data and information regarding the instances that the commission was reviewing.
