After being “smashed to bits” by attackers who targeted his store in March, Ian Towning, 76, said he was feeling much better.
The pair raided the Bourbon Hanby Antiques Arcade in Chelsea, west London, causing thousands of pounds’ worth of damage and theft of jewelry. Two more people were hurt as well, one of them being a security guard.
Along with providing an update on his health, Mr. Towning, who has appeared as an antiques expert on Channel 4’s Posh Pawn and ITV’s Dickinson’s Real Deal, thanks “the 21,000-plus people from around the globe who sent me amazing wishes of ‘get well soon’.”
He revealed that a coworker had been “hit so seriously on his head and had to have stitches” during the attack in a video posted on his Instagram page. He said, “Me, [it] doesn’t matter, I’ve recovered very well, smashed to bits, but doesn’t matter.”
He concluded by saying, “Give us all your support; we need all the support we can get, and we’ve got a lot of it.”
The antiquities expert said, chuckling a little, “People have been crazy lately. I believe it’s a sympathy issue, albeit I’m not sure why.
“They have been incredibly amazing and helpful. I simply don’t know how to express my gratitude.
