SARGODHA: According to police officials, a Christian man who was the target of a vengeful mob in Punjab’s Sargodha district due to accusations of blasphemy died from his wounds on Monday morning.
Spokesman for Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sharik Kamal Siddiqui said that over 70-year-old Nazir Masih spent nine days receiving medical care at CMH Hospital in Rawalpindi.
The statement stated that although Masih underwent two surgeries, he was unable to recover from the injuries sustained to his head. After a postmortem examination, he will be laid to rest later today.
The hospital sources stated that Masih passed away as a result of serious head injuries.
The event happened in Sargodha on May 25 after Masih was allegedly blasphemed and tortured by an enraged mob.After furious individuals broke into the victim’s home in the Mujahid Colony neighborhood, destroying his possessions and setting a shoe factory on fire, the situation descended into violence. In addition, they destroyed nearby electrical installations and set fire to tires.
