LONDON: Following a collision between an oil tanker and a cargo ship in the North Sea on Monday that resulted in a massive fire and 32 injuries, a significant rescue effort was underway.
Martin Boyers, the port director for Grimsby, told AFP that “ambulances were queueing on the quay” and that the injured had been taken ashore for treatment “in three vessels.”
“Reports of a collision between a tanker and cargo vessel off the coast of East Yorkshire” prompted the UK Coastguard to coordinate the operation, according to a Coastguard spokesperson.
The Coast Guard was doing an evaluation of the probable counter-pollution response that was needed, the spokesperson stated.
A massive cloud of dense, black smoke and flames was depicted on UK media channels.
