The Iranian judiciary said on Tuesday that two former ministers had been sentenced to prison in connection with a multibillion-dollar corruption case involving imported tea.
According to a May article in the Iranian daily, which quoted the nation’s chief justice, the case, known in Iran as the Debsh Tea Scandal, began in 2023 and involved over 60 parties and $3.7 billion.
According to the judiciary’s news agency, Mizan Online, 42 defendants were condemned in the case, including former industry minister Reza Fatemi Amin and former agriculture minister Javad Sadatinejad.
According to Mizan, Fatemi Amin was sentenced to two years in prison, while Sadatinejad was given a one-year sentence for their roles in the affair.
The two were employees of the late President Ebrahim Raisi.
