Around midnight on Thursday, the 26-year-old man on Hills Drive in Stockton-on-Tees passed away.
Official identification has not yet occurred, according to the force, but officers with specialized training are helping the victim’s relatives.
As part of a murder investigation, five people have been questioned by detectives; all of them are still being held.
Photos from Hills Drive, a residential neighborhood north of the town center, where a blue forensic tent was set up, were released by the local media on Thursday morning.
Another local, who was interviewed by Teesside Live, claimed to have attended to the victim on the spot.
He raced up to the man after hearing “high-pitched screaming,” saw him on the ground, and “started doing CPR,” according to the news station. “At that point, he was still alive,” he continued.
The Northern Echo, meanwhile, showed images of forensic teams at Stewart Road’s back in white overalls.
Cleveland Police say that investigations are ongoing and that they have issued a call to action for witnesses or anyone with pertinent video to come forward.
