A veteran firefighter discovered a rare medieval bishop’s ring in a Norfolk field, and it is anticipated to sell for up to £18,000 at auction.
The gold ring was discovered in King Row, Shipdham, in 2019 by detectorist Mark Sell, 63, and features a core hexagonal cabochon sapphire with two emeralds and two garnets.
When he saw some gold shimmering in the muck, Mr. Sell claimed to be “amazed” and intended to divide the proceeds with the landowner.
On March 26, the ring, which was made between the late 12th and early 13th centuries, will be put under the hammer at Noonans Mayfair.
