Social media footage from the incident, which happened at a street party in the city, shows people getting panicked when gunshots can be heard.
According to the police, one of the victims was in serious condition and both of the fatalities were male. According to authorities, one of the victims has already left the hospital.
The Memphis Police Department then changed the number of victims from 16 to 12, including the two men who died, citing an “error” that was probably caused by “several victims being reported multiple times.”
Between 200 and 300 people were present during “a block party that was occurring without a permit,” according to the police.
According to News, which cited Memphis Police interim chief Cerelyn Davis, at least two people are being sought.
