Due to what Guerline Jozef, executive director of the Haitian Bridge Alliance, described as the two’s attempts to “vilify and threaten” their community, multiple bomb threats have been reported in the city this month.
Ms. Jozef claimed that “the debunked claim that Haitian immigrants in Springfield are eating cats, dogs, and wildlife” had been propagated and perpetuated by Mr. Trump, the Republican nominee for president, and Mr. Vance, the senator from Ohio, who served as his running mate.
Springfield officials have consistently refuted claims that Haitian immigrants entered the country illegally, and local police have downplayed allegations that immigrants were consuming pets.
The attorney for the Haitian community group, Subodh Chandra, noted the local prosecutor’s actions in defending Ms. Jozef’s ability to bring the charges in private as a resident of Clark County Municipal Court.
He added in a statement on Tuesday that “anyone else” who had propagated such “relentless and persistent lies” would have been arrested by now, according to News.
“They must be held accountable to the rule of law in the same way any of the rest of us would be,” stated Mr. Chandra.
