Local media sources citing the police claimed that a homeless guy who had supposedly been feeding and sheltering the Indian student killed him in Georgia, United States.
According to Wion, security camera footage shows Vivek Saini, 25, was repeatedly struck with a hammer by Julian Faulkner, 53.
Workers at the Chevron Food Mart said authorities that they had been letting a homeless man come and go from their store for over two days before to the attack.
A worker, who preferred to remain anonymous, told WSB-TV that they would provide Faulkner with “everything including the water” and that he would ask for soda and chips.
Additionally, the staff member informed the media outlet that the man would sit in the store “all the time” and that, despite the extreme weather, they never asked him to leave.
But on January 16, shortly after midnight, Saini—who apparently worked part-time as a cashier at the business and immigrated to the US from Haryana, India, two years prior—asked Faulkner to leave or he would contact the police.
Faulkner attacked the Indian student just as he was about to depart, according to the police.
The employee told the television channel, “He hit him from the back then he kept on hitting for almost 50 times on the face on the head.”
Faulkner was discovered by the police standing over Saini’s lifeless body. At the scene, he was declared deceased.
Ever since his immediate arrest, Faulkner has been held in the DeKalb County Jail. Since then, he has been accused of interfering with government property and felony murder.
It was also disclosed over the course of the investigation that the police who detained Faulkner discovered two knives and an additional hammer on him.
The Indian Consulate General in Atlanta denounced the attack in the “strongest terms” and stated it is in contact with the victim’s family after the incident made headlines throughout India.
