Rose departed from Nigeria with great hope for everything that Britain has to offer.
Her father had been a trader until he lost his shop, thus the family could not afford for her to finish her education. She was the first of five children.
Rose, who goes by Rose, claims she was brought to the couple’s restaurant, where she worked as a cook and cleaner from 17:00 to 5:00. She put in six days a week at work and completed more housework on her one day off. “I felt completely worn out and empty. She claims, “This was not what they promised me.” Rose claims that the demanding work schedule persisted for a full year without pay or indication that she would begin her education. “That’s when it dawned on me – ‘Oh, these people actually bring me here to work for them as a slave.'” She called her family when she took their young daughter to the park because she was unable to call them at the time due to the home’s CCTV system.
