A German court has found three men guilty of attempting to extort the family of former Formula 1 champion Michael Schumacher.
Yilmaz T, 53, was sentenced to three years in prison for threatening to post private medical records, nearly 600 movies, and 900 personal images to the dark web unless the Schumacher family paid €15 million (£12 million).
For aiding and abetting extortion, his 30-year-old son received a six-month suspended sentence. Schumacher’s home security guard, who denied any involvement, was given a two-year suspended sentence.
Since suffering severe brain injuries in a ski accident in 2013, Schumacher has not been sighted in public. His medical condition has been kept a secret by his family.
Yilmaz T, a nightclub, and the father and son have acknowledged the majority of the charges.
