Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday instructed the relevant authorities to develop an action plan for the safe evacuation of Pakistanis who wish to return from Syria via neighboring countries as soon as possible, citing the tense security situation in Syria following the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
Following a fast march that turned the tide of a 13-year civil war, Syria’s rebel fighters rushed into Damascus without any opposition on Sunday, toppling President Assad and bringing an end to nearly 60 years of his family’s autocratic reign.
A meeting to evaluate the current state of affairs in Syria and the safe evacuation of Pakistanis currently residing there was being chaired by the prime minister.
