On Saturday afternoon, Luke Walford, a youth pastor, was bitten while spearfishing with his family.
According to authorities, he suffered “life-threatening injuries” and passed away at the site almost an hour later, despite the efforts of paramedics.
When the attack occurred, he and his family were in the water at Humpy Island in Keppel Bay Islands National Park, which is part of the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkeling and diving are popular activities in the area.
