Social media posts feature images and videos of smoke rising from BAE Systems in Barrow-in-Furness and fires.
After the fire started at around 12.30 am on Wednesday, Cumbria Police reported that there were no casualties, although two persons were transported to the hospital.
According to the force, Devonshire Dock Hall has been evacuated and the fire response is still ongoing.
There was no nuclear risk, it added.
Residents in the vicinity were also urged by Cumbria Police to “keep doors and windows closed” and “remain indoors”.
