A 37-year-old man with the last name Lin was taken into custody by Chinese police at the scene, they claimed, adding that he had traveled to Shanghai in order to “vent his anger due to a personal economic dispute”. Investigations are still ongoing.
The incident happened at a mall in Songjiang, a heavily populated area in the southwest of the city that is also the location of multiple universities.
The three fatalities, according to the police, passed away from their wounds in the hospital. It is thought that the other people “did not sustain life-threatening wounds” and are not in danger.
“There was blood everywhere,” a witness going by Shi told News.

It seems that Chinese social media has now banned discussions over the incident.
