KARACHI: On Sunday, protesters from two opposing factions clashed with riot police in Karachi, defying Section 144. This led to nearly 100 arrests during the demonstrations against the death of Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar, a blasphemy suspect.
The Karachi Commissioner’s Section 144, which forbids rallies and gatherings of more than five persons across the city, was violated by the “Sindh Rawadari March” participants, who fought with police outside the press club and resisted arrest.
Authorities reported that more than a hundred demonstrators, belonging to various factions, were apprehended from various locations throughout the city, such as the Jinnah Hospital, the Hotel Metropole, and the Karachi Press Club.
Additionally, four police officers were hurt during the altercations, according to sources who spoke with Geo News, and they were moved.
