LAHORE/SHEIKHUPURA: On Friday, a Shalimar Express train traveling from Lahore to Karachi veered off its rails at Shahdara bridge close to Sheikhupura.
Rescue personnel rushed to the scene after three of the train’s coaches derailed, officials said, adding that train operations were also halted as a result of the incident.
“The Shalimar Express (train) had left Lahore for Karachi at 7:30am,” a railway spokesman stated following the crisis.
According to him, “all passengers on board the three derailed coaches are safe” and were transported to the train station in Shahdara thereafter.
He claimed that an investigation into the event has been requested by Railways CEO Aamir Ali Baloch.
According to the spokeswoman, the train involved in the derailment has departed for Khanewal.
