The vehicle fell from the Thelwall Viaduct near Warrington – between junctions 20 and 21 on the motorway – and landed on an embankment below, police added.
It happened at roughly 6.50pm on Monday. It appears that the lorry driver’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Firefighters who had lowered themselves to the truck saved them.
The car was cooled down with water by Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, who also managed to plug a 1,000-liter gasoline leak.
Three northbound lanes are scheduled to be blocked until Tuesday morning, according to the Cheshire Constabulary, therefore drivers have been advised to avoid the area.
There’s just one available lane, and it’s moving slower.
