Three months of house imprisonment have been imposed on a prominent organizer of the “Freedom Convoy” trucker protests that clogged Canada’s capital for weeks in 2022.
Pat King, 47, was found guilty in November of five out of nine felony offenses, including two instances of defying a court order, mischief, counseling to conduct mischief, and counseling to obstruct a public or police officer.
An Ontario Superior Court judge granted King nine months of credit for time already served in prison during his sentencing on Wednesday. A 10-year sentence had been requested by the prosecution.
During the epidemic, King was a member of a group that organized a truck convoy to protest Covid-19 policies in Ottawa.
King’s attorney, Natasha Calvinho, described the sentencing ruling as “balanced” in remarks made outside the courthouse on Wednesday.
