Shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday, the youngster slipped into the water in Aylestone Meadows, near Marsden Lane. Another man was admitted to the hospital.
Just after 5:00 p.m., emergency personnel were called to the area in Aylestone Meadows, near Marsden Lane.
The child was at the area with his family when the incident happened, but Leicestershire Police stated that “despite the best efforts of those at the scene”, the boy was not found.
A hospital was consulted for the man “as a precautionary measure”.
On Monday morning, more specialized teams will join the search effort.
Police issued a warning to the public not to attend the area owing to rising water levels and safety dangers, despite the fact that they had received multiple offers of assistance with the search.
Leicestershire Police released a statement saying: “Our thoughts are with the child’s family during this very trying time, and they are receiving support from specialized officers.”
“If anyone has any information or comes across anything that may assist officers, they are asked to contact us immediately.”
