The most recent TikToker to be imprisoned in Uganda is a 21-year-old who made a video allegedly insulting President Yoweri Museveni.
After entering a guilty plea to four charges last week, including hate speech and disseminating false information about the president, Emmanuel Nabugodi showed up for the sentencing on Monday.
He received a 32-month prison sentence.
A mock trial of the head of state was filmed by Nabugodi, who is well-known for posting humorous stuff with his 20,000 followers. He demanded that Museveni be publicly flogged in it.
Rights organizations have regularly voiced their displeasure with the nation’s limits on free expression, claiming that the president, who has held office since 1986, does not accept criticism.
Edward Awebwa received a six-year sentence in July.
