A hacker who laundered the earnings of one of the largest Bitcoin thefts in history was given a five-year prison sentence in the United States.
Last year, Ilya Lichtenstein entered a guilty plea in the case concerning the 2016 breach of the Bitfinex cryptocurrency exchange, which resulted in the theft of about 120,000 bitcoin.
His wife Heather Morgan, who promoted her hip-hop songs under the nickname Razzlekhan, assisted him in laundering the stolen cryptocurrency.
The bitcoin was valued at about $70 million (£55.3 million) at the time of the crime, but by the time they were apprehended, its value had increased to over $4.5 billion. They would be worth more than twice that at today’s pricing.
