After being detained in Afghanistan for over two years, the Taliban have released an American airplane mechanic.
George Glezmann, who was arrested in December 2022 while on vacation in Qatar, flew into the country Thursday night and then returned to the United States.
After US captive envoy Adam Boehler and other US officials were met in Kabul, the Afghan capital, by the foreign minister of the Taliban regime, his release was officially verified.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio referred to the agreement as a “positive and constructive step,” while the Taliban’s foreign ministry described Mr. Glezmann’s release as “on humanitarian grounds” and “a goodwill gesture.”
