In Phoenix, Arizona, the 34-year-old will face Yamileth Mercado, the WBC champion from Mexico.
Ali’s incredible journey began when she had to flee war-torn Somalia and ended when she became a model, activist, and world-title boxer.
She expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m just so happy to be there and to show everyone that I deserve to be in there challenging for the world title.”
Ali has won nine professional fights. She lost one, in June 2023, against Julissa Alejandra Guzman, but she won it back five months later.
At the press conference on Thursday, Ali stated, “What happened the first time was just luck, and the second time I proved that I was the better boxer, and I feel that I’m going to do that again on Saturday.”
She wants to win a green and gold WBC belt and follow in the footsteps of her idols, Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali.
That’s the title I want if I win the world championship, Ali stated, and it solidifies my legacy and shows the world that I am a great person.
