Banks is proposing the End Executive Branch Amnesty Act, which would restrict the use of Temporary Protected Status to shield migrants from deportation and target the Biden administration’s use of humanitarian parole to permit migrants to enter the country.
Using the CBP One app, the Biden administration has utilized parole to admit 1,450 migrants every day as part of its efforts to increase legal migration routes in order to address the ongoing border issue.
Through a different program, it has also made it possible for more than 500,000 migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the country by air.
According to the Biden administration, those initiatives have been successful in reducing migration and establishing a smooth border crossing procedure. Republicans have argued that the actions amount to an abuse of parole by allowing in foreign nationals who would otherwise be ineligible. After DHS discovered evidence of sponsor fraud, the program was temporarily suspended.
