According to the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), over three-quarters of the guns found in a number of high-crime Caribbean countries were made in the US.
According to the GAO, over 5,400 firearms found at crime sites in several Caribbean countries, such as Haiti, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, between 2018 and 2022 can be traced back to the United States.
Handguns accounted for 88 percent of the recovered and tracked firearms in the 25 Caribbean countries that the GAO evaluated, according to data they collected from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).
