Letby, 34, of Hereford, is serving fifteen whole-life sentences for the June 2015–June 2016 murders of seven newborns and the attempted murder of seven more when he was employed at the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal ward.
Dr. Rachel Lambie spoke on Wednesday before the Thirlwall Inquiry, which is investigating the circumstances surrounding Letby’s crimes. She said she could recall seeing a “huddle of nurses” hunched over a computer while she was strolling through the hospital’s intensive care unit.

This, according to Dr. Lambie, occurred just before she left the hospital in September 2015 to complete a trainee doctor placement.
Counsel to the inquiry, Rachel Langdale KC, addressed Dr. Lambie: “You are clear that there was debate about the unthinkable and looking for somebody as a common denominator?
