The major contribution of solar energy to Pakistan’s electricity production was emphasized by Justice Shahid Karim during the Lahore High Court hearing on the smog remediation issue.
The court observed that the amount of electricity produced by solar panels has increased by 30%, prompting concerns about how best to use this extra power.
“Electricity production has increased, but where will this additional power be directed?” said Justice Shahid Karim. The remarks were made amid a more general conversation on the country’s energy problems and the cost to customers.
Azhar Siddique, an attorney for the petitioners, expressed disapproval over the way power subsidies have been handled lately. He contended that the subsidy scheme has degenerated into a farce, citing the fact that electricity prices have grown dramatically rather than decreased.
