In a statement to People magazine, the Grammy Award-winning singer revealed that her “heart is broken” over the deaths of her mother Patricia and sister Alison.
The celebrity news website states that their causes of death are currently unknown.
“My heart is broken that I lost my mother this past weekend,” Carey, 55, stated in a statement.
“Unfortunately, my sister passed away on the same day due to a tragic turn of events.
“I consider myself fortunate to have had the final week with my mother before she died away.
Patricia was 87 years old and a former vocal instructor and opera soprano.
The 2020 memoir “The Meaning Of Mariah Carey” included a thorough account of Carey’s difficult relationship with her mother.
“My journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities, like many aspects of my life,” the author stated. It’s always been a rainbow of feelings rather than just black and white.”
Additionally, Carey wrote: “Our relationship is a thorny rope of gratitude, envy, pride, pain, shame, admiration, and disappointment.”
