In an interview with TV’s The Leader Interviews – Tonight, the Reform UK leader rejected believing he was the British equivalent of Donald Trump, saying, “I think we’re very different but I think we think the same on many things.”
“He’s learned quite a bit from me, I think it goes both ways,” he continued. For years prior to his decision to run, he had been following my remarks in the European Parliament.”
In response to a question about whether the previous president had told him this, Mr. Farage said, “I know that to be true.”
Mr. Farage has frequently complimented the former US president and has a good relationship with him.
Mr. Farage had stated he intended to assist Trump in his presidential campaign this year prior to his announcement earlier this month that he would be joining Reform UK.
But he has now acknowledged: “If I’m elected the MP for Clacton, and I’m there every Friday… it’ll become more difficult but not impossible.”
Mr. Farage also reiterated in the interview that Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine was “provoked” by the West.
He told TV that when asked how he would handle the Russian president, “We’ve tried, of course, to weaken him through sanctions, but all that’s actually done is drive him into the arms of China.”
