At least 40 people died on Monday as flooding swallowed houses due to a dam failure in western Kenya.
The Old Kijabe Dam, which collapsed, is situated in the Great Rift Valley’s flood-prone Mai Mahiu area.
There have been nearly 100 fatalities as a result of the extensive flooding brought on by Kenya’s constant, heavy rains.
At least 40 people were killed when a dam in western Kenya collapsed early on Monday, according to authorities, after a wall of water slammed over homes and shut off a key road.
According to Stephen Kirui, a police spokesman, the Old Kijabe Dam fell and water rushed downstream. The dam is situated in the flash-flooded Mai Mahiu district of the Great Rift Valley region.
