Two persons with knowledge of the situation told News, the partner network in the US, that the FBI notified Kash Patel that his communications had been targeted. The success of the purported hacking attempt and the potential amount of compromised data are unknown.
The announcement comes after US authorities have warned since the summer about hackings on Trump allies that are based in Iran. Three Iranians were accused by prosecutors in September in relation to a hack on Trump’s campaign for the 2024 election.
Iran has dismissed similar claims in the past.
“Kash Patel was a key part of the first Trump administration’s efforts against the terrorist Iranian regime and will implement President Trump’s policies to protect the country,” a Trump spokesperson told US news outlets in a statement that did not expressly acknowledge the accusations.
