The prime minister added that the Conservatives would look into the accusations that have plagued the closing stages of his campaign internally.
In an Edinburgh interview, Mr. Sunak stated that his party “will act” in the event that the Conservative investigation into the purported betting scandal reveals misconduct.
“The Gambling Commission is independent of the government; it’s independent of me,” he stated.
“I’m not aware of the specifics of their inquiry, is I right? They don’t report to me, so I can’t tell you the specifics, but I can tell you that we’ve been carrying out our own internal investigations concurrently.
When questioned if he had ever placed a political wager while serving as an MP, Mr. Sunak said, “No.”
In addition to ruling out any involvement from his family, the prime minister is in Scotland to assist Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross in introducing the party’s policy.
