Based on data from researchers Kantar, the markets with the fastest-rising prices are chilled soft drinks, chocolate confectionary, and skin care.
Due to September’s exceptionally rainy weather, sales of hot chocolate, soup, and home baking increased by 28%, 10%, and 7%, respectively. Sales of Halloween pumpkins nearly doubled from September of previous year, reaching just under £1 million in the last four weeks.
Notwithstanding the general escalation in prices, investigators reported that supermarkets had reduced the price of certain necessities in an effort to attract customers.
According to the research, September saw 6% less toilet and kitchen rolls than the same month the previous year, while dog and cat food prices decreased by 4% and 3%, respectively.
Fraser McKevitt of Kantar stated: “The fight for value is on in the intensely competitive retail space.
“Supermarkets are working hard to keep costs down for customers, and as a result, several categories’ prices are declining.
