The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) pronounced the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) as “un-Islamic” on Friday, emphasizing the necessity of limiting access to blasphemous or immoral content on the internet.
The government has the authority to suppress evil and bar access to it, according to a declaration made by CII Chairman Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi.
He stated that it is in line with Sharia law to take action to stop or limit access to objectionable and immoral content.
In answer to a question on whether using a VPN is allowed under Shariah, particularly when it’s being used to access websites that are barred or unlawful, Dr. Naeemi explained that although VPNs are technically a tool for security and privacy, they are frequently abused to gain access to content that is prohibited.
