Chairman Wasim Mukhtar of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) presided over a hearing wherein the government’s proposal for an increase in electricity rates was deliberated.
The authority was briefed on the proposed uniform rate by representatives of the Power Division during the hearing.
The price calculation, according to Power Division officials, was based on a dollar exchange rate of 300 rupees, meaning that capacity payments would increase by 38 paisas per unit.
In response, NEPRA Chairman asked, “If we are raising the tariff, then how is it decreasing?” raising doubts about the reasoning behind the hike. In addition, he mentioned that the June modifications will be completed in July.
