A prime minister “spends pretty much every bit of their waking life working on it,” according to Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds, and if they are able to accomplish anything significant, “I don’t think that’s a problem.”
This comes after it was discovered by News’ Westminster Accounts research that since taking over as Labour leader, Sir Keir has gotten significantly more freebies than any other MP.
He has received gifts, perks, and hospitality totaling £107,145 since December 2019, which falls under a certain category in the parliament’s register of MPs’ interests.
The Premier League is one of the largest providers of hospitality; since December 2019, Sir Keir, a well-known Arsenal supporter, has accumulated about £40,000 in tickets.
“I believe that anyone who works in a position with the kind of pressure, scope, and importance that the prime minister does works on it for almost their entire waking life,” Mr. Reynolds stated.
Prime ministers, he continued, “would reasonably expect” to be seated in a directors’ box at a sporting event for security reasons.
