Following the demands made by the delegates of Bannu Aman Jirga to eradicate terrorism and bring about peace in the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Apex Committee has reaffirmed that no operation is being started in the province.
Leading members of the civil, military, and police services were present at the apex committee meeting, which was presided over by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur.
The apex committee met today and talked about terrorism and the Bannu incident, which resulted in at least four deaths and multiple injuries after a protest against the worsening law and order situation turned ugly. The protest was organized by traders. The jirga representatives then requested, in a meeting with KP Chief Minister Gandapur earlier this week, that armed groups operating in the province be dismantled, that police be given more authority and that they patrol at night, that CTD be given the authority to conduct search operations or take action against terrorists in place of security forces, and that missing persons be brought before courts.
The chief minister has ordered police to detain and prosecute any armed man who does not represent the government, and the apex committee declared in the press release that terrorism in all its forms is “condemnable” and that the province government will crack down on them.
