Adele is providing explanation to a meme that went popular while she was visiting the NBA All-Star Game in Cleveland, Ohio in 2022.
At the time, the camera focused on the Grammy winner sitting courtside, who was completely ignoring the cameraman.
Surprisingly, the incident went viral and became a meme. Years later, the Hello singer addressed the issue during her recent Weekends With Adele show in Las Vegas.
“Do you remember that viral meme of me appearing unconcerned? “I’d like to provide some context for that meme,” she said.
The hitmaker went on, “I know it seems ridiculous, but I don’t like being famous, right? So obviously, I’m sitting courtside at a basketball game.
Adding, “But Rich [Paul] was working the room and, you know, talking to other guys and individuals. I was OK. I did not mind. To be honest, I was there on my own seeking for Michael Jordan.
However, she continued, “So, the ones with the camera came over and asked me twice. They were asking, “Do you mind if we film you?” Can we put you on screen?
“I asked, ‘Please don’t. I’ve recently canceled my Las Vegas residency. I really don’t want to be on camera. “They came back and filmed me.”
The 35-year-old explained, “The reason my lips look like I have filler is because I have naturally large lips. I don’t need filler. Why I looked like a different person was because I was sulking.”
“Because I was like, ‘These * filming me against my will.'” Adele expressed her surprise, saying she had no idea they would air the footage.
“I had no idea they were airing it on TV. I thought it was only in the room, you know. But, yeah, I simply wanted to provide some background because I was looking everywhere but at the camera.”
“I was quite annoyed since I requested not to be filmed. Also, my face is ideal for memes. “I can’t help it.”
