ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court on Friday authorized a request to produce Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and party leader Shah Mahmood Qureshi in court, ordering officials to ensure their appearance on April 20.
The petition requiring their production was heard by Judicial Magistrate Mureed Abbas in connection with the Parliament attack case against Imran Khan and others, during which the former prime minister’s lawyer, Naeem Panjotha, presented his arguments.
During the hearing, the lawyer argued that the Superintendent of the Adiala Jail did not heed any court order. He urged the court to ensure that the jail staff followed the directives and produced Khan.
He claimed that jail officials fabricate excuses, and the PTI founder is not even presented.
Following Panjotha’s remarks, the judicial magistrate stated that Khan is in Adiala jail, where the situation is different, and that, while a video link is available, attendance is held in the e-court.
The former premier’s counsel stated that the court should require Khan to appear in court.
“The High Court ruled that a meeting with a political leader can be done on video link.”
Panjotha went on to say that the internet works in Adiala jail, but it stops working for the PTI founder.
“Superintendent Adiala jail is afraid to bring the PTI founder on video link,” stated the attorney for the defendant.
